Pets Are Family, and Families Need Our Support
Across Metro Denver, more people are turning to community resources like food banks, housing assistance, and other safety nets to make ends meet. And when people need help, their pets need help as well.
MDAWA members work every day to keep pets with their families by providing pet food, veterinary care, behavior support, and safe shelter when families cannot provide it temporarily. Their work ensures that compassion reaches both people and animals, because thriving communities care for all their members.
Why Support Matters Now
Animal welfare organizations across the region are stretched thin as the need grows. Stray intakes are rising, relinquishments are increasing, and large scale impounds are testing every resource.
In a real world example of this work, Riverdale Animal Shelter stepped up when the call came. Over just a few months, their team managed seven major impound and seizure operations. They took in hundreds of vulnerable pets and provided essential care when it mattered most. These moments are not just numbers. They represent vital community services made possible by teamwork, resources, and support from people who care.
Every dollar given strengthens this safety net for pets and for people.
When you give to a MDAWA member organization, you help:
• Keep pets and people together through services like pet food banks and veterinary care assistance.
• Provide safe refuge for animals who have nowhere else to go.
• Empower communities to respond with compassion when families face crisis.

Together, We Make a Difference
This year, MDAWA encourages everyone to remember that when we show up for people and their pets, we build a more connected and caring community. It is a community where no one has to choose between feeding their family and keeping their pet.
Together, we can keep families whole, keep shelters strong, and make sure every pet and every person feels supported this holiday season.
